Job Description:
The primary objective of this role is to prepare and maintain documentation pertaining to programming, systems operation and user documentation, by translating business specifications into user documentation. Plans, writes, and maintains systems and user support documentation efforts, including online help screen.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Validate processes against current work practices and ensure documentation is fully up to date and complete to facilitate efficient operation.
- Provide a document writing service that supports effective knowledge sharing and facilitates robust operational processes and procedures.
- Write computer software and hardware installation and configuration procedures to ensure consistency of approach.
- Develop, maintain and optimize detailed work instructions to ensure clarity and consistency of approach.
- Interview team members to elicit key information about processes and procedures to ensure documentation is kept up to date.
- Review and edit technical writing by other team members to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Review and coordinate the preparation of reports, papers, and presentations to facilitate management meetings and decision making.
- Create document plans and provide work estimates and work plans.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, and operational procedures utilizing predefined formats.
- Lead efforts to write documentation for end users, technical personnel, and management.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- BS/BA degree in an IT or communication-related field required.
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience.
- Extensive experience in the use of Microsoft® Office product suite; Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Project.
- Skilled use of current industry-standard design and publication software and languages (e.g. Photoshop, Freehand, Illustrator, Quark, Acrobat, Premiere, Flash, HTML, etc.).
- Knowledge of common PC and server hardware platforms and an overall understanding of centralized, distributed, and individual computing environments.
- Skilled in the operation of computers and peripherals. Ability to quickly interpret technical material in books, journals or manuals.
- For undocumented software and/or hardware, ability to "learn by doing." Ability to act as lead when needed for development of user communication campaigns.
- Ability to translate complex technical language into ‘plain English’.
- Able to process and understand complex information concisely and effectively.
- Ability to work in flexible times outside normal working hours and during peak periods as required.
